SECTION –A

(Answer all questions in one word or one sentence each. Each question carries 1 mark)
1.      What is frequency density?
2.      What is a sampling frame?

SECTION –B

(Answer any five questions in one paragraph each. Each question carries 2 marks)
5.      Distinguish between relative and absolute measures of dispersion.
6.      What are the requisites of a satisfactory average?
7.      A sample consists of 34 observations recorded correct to the nearest integer, ranging in value from 201 to 337. If  it is decided  to use the seven classes of width 20 integers and to begin the first class at 199.5, find the class limits and class marks of the seven classes.
8.      A cyclist pedals from his house to his college at a speed of 10kmph and back from the college to his house at 15kmph. Find the average speed.
9.      Define combined mean and combined standard deviation.
10.  State the law of inertia of large numbers.

SECTION –C
(Answer any four questions in not exceeding 120 words. Each question carries 3 marks)
11.  The total sale(in ‘000 rupees) of a particular item in shop on 10 consecutive days is reported by a clerk as 35.00, 29.60, 38.00,30.00, 40.00 , 41.00,42.00,45.00,3.60,3.80. Calculate the average. Later it was found that there was a number 10.00 in the machine and the reports of 4th to 8th days were 10.00 more than the true values and in the last 2 days he put a decimal in the wrong place thus for example 3.60 was really 36.0. Calculate the true mean value.
12.  The mean marks obtained by 300 students in the subject of statistics are 45. The mean of the top 100 of them was found to be 70 and the mean of the last 100 was known to be 20. What is the mean of the remaining 100 students?
13.  Explain the use of statistics in commerce and economics.
14.  What are the limitations of statistics?
15.  Distinguish between census method and sampling method.
