worksheet 1 on Relation and mapping (function)

1.      Given A={2,3,6,9,18} and B={4,8,12,16,20} and the relation from A to B means “ is a factor of”. Represent the relation
a.      In roster form
b.      By an arrow diagram
2.      Write in roster form {x:x is a two digit number whose one’s place is 0}
3.      Let P={1,3,5,7,9} Q={1,3,5}. Find the following relation from Q to P
a.      R1 = “is equal to”
b.      R2 = “is two less than”
c.       R3=”is two more than”
d.      R4=”is greater than”
4.      Given ordered pairs: (4,2) (4,3) (5,2) (5,3) (6,2) (6,3). Use these ordered pairs to find the following relations:
a.      R1={(x,y): x+y <7}
b.      R2={(x,y): x is a multiple of y}
5.      Given ordered pairs: (1,a) (1,b) (1,c) (2,b) (2,c) (3,b) (3,c). Express by an arrow diagram. Also write the domain and range of the relation.
6.      What is the necessary condition for a relation to be function?
7.      F(x)= 2x+1 find F(-1), F(1) and F(0)
8.      If f(x)=x2-1 and f(x)=24 find x
9.      Given P={2,4,6,8} and Q={3,7}. State whether {(3,2} (7,6)} is a function from Q to P or not

10.  Given A={3,4,5,6} and B={8,9}. State giving reason whether {(3,8) (4,9) (5,8)} is a mapping from A to B or not.
